IntroductionChorleywood Cricket Club has been playing on The Common for nearly 200 years and, for passers-by in the summer months, the sight of a cricket match in progress as they drive or walk through Chorleywood is always a memorable landmark. The club is a thriving local success story that has a distinguished history, and, thanks to a dedicated membership who want to ensure the legacy of the club for years to come, exciting plans for the future. Senior CricketWe have increased our playing membership and, with yet more of our Colts progressing into our senior teams, we enter four teams in the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League on Saturdays throughout the summer. Our teams compete in Division 2a, 4b, 10b and Regional Division A West. This provides levels of competitive cricket for all who wish to play on a Saturday afternoon. On Sundays, the club enjoys friendly senior matches with neighbouring clubs. We also host friendly T20 matches on the common. In the winter season, the club takes part in the Choice Cricket Centre Indoor League. This winter, the club was crowned Men's Division 2 champions. Colts / Junior CricketAt Chorleywood, we are proud of our Colts structure, which provides an excellent environment for youngsters of all ages from 6 years old. Our focus is on helping them to experience the joys of cricket as well as to hone their cricketing skills. Our Club team structure provides a pathway to playing for our senior teams, and a number of our colts have progressed to senior cricket in recent years. We have many qualified coaches (all DBS checked) who provide advice and guidance for players of all standards. Our coaches help them to make the most of their abilities and to enjoy playing the marvellous game of cricket in a safe and friendly atmosphere. We currently run fixtures for eight Hertfordshire Junior League teams at ages ranging from Under 9s to Under 15s playing either on Sundays or on weekday evenings. We run practice sessions on Sunday mornings (9am - 10.30am) for U6s - U11s. On Friday Evenings we hold U12 - U15 training (6.30pm - 8pm) - so there really is something for youngsters of all ages and abilities to enjoy at Chorleywood. There's something for the parents too, as tea, coffee and bacon rolls are normally available, thanks to willing Mums and Dads on Sunday Mornings. If the weather permits, the BBQ will be fired up on some Friday evenings! Parents support our Colts section through scoring, umpiring, coaching and managing. Training for these roles is provided by the Club for those who wish to participate. We are always hopeful for more helpers so if you wish to take part, please get in touch! |
SocialAt Chorleywood, we know how important it is that all our members, both Playing and Social, can enjoy themselves off the field as well as on it. The Common is a fantastic place to spend time watching cricket and there's always a great atmosphere in our clubhouse both during the games and when all the teams congregate after matches. There are a number of social functions run all year round such as quiz nights, race nights, an annual dinner / dance and regular barbeques at the Club for all to enjoy. We have a Club Day on August Bank Holiday weekend when a competitive and fun 6-a-side tournament is held followed by a karaoke evening. We also hold separate award presentation evenings for Colts and Senior players at the end of each season. The futureIn order to preserve Chorleywood Cricket Club as such an important part of the local community there is much to be done over the next few years. We have already replaced our practice nets and our cricket square. We are also developing plans to replace our 60+ years old pavilion that has seen better days, and become costly to maintain. 50 ClubPlease see the 50 Club page for details.
